Technical Rescue Team
Stations 204 and 213 currently house 32 certified technical
rescue personnel between three shifts.
A Special Operations Captain oversees the entire
team, coordinating their on-going training and
providing valuable assistance at incidents.
Each member of the team has completed a minimum 200
hour certification course, and maintains their
skills with many hours of required continuing
education. The technical rescue team is trained for
a variety of situations, including high angle
rescue, trench collapse, palm tree rescue, swift
water rescue, confined space rescue, tower rescue
and structural collapse. A special support
vehicle, called Utility 204, responds on all technical rescue incidents and carries an equipment
inventory to support the team members.
In 1996, the Mesa Fire
Department's Technical Rescue
Team received national
attention for their rescue of a twelve year old
autistic boy atop a 120 foot electrical tower.
